Dr. Ron Garrett
Dr. Ron Garrett, now Director of Reentry Health Services and Supports at Mettle-Works Behavioral Health, has transformed his life from a former inmate at Wilcox State Prison to a leader in reentry services and education. At Mettle-Works, he oversees the Life Success Academy, an evidence-based program designed to help returning citizens and their families reintegrate into society.
During his incarceration at Wilcox State Prison, Garrett served as a chaplain’s aide, implemented a two-year discipleship course, and co-authored a Kairos Leadership Procedures Manual. It was also during this time that he earned his BA in Theology, followed by a Master of Ministry and a Doctor of Ministry. His personal journey from incarceration to leadership fuels his passion for helping others navigate reentry into society.
Garrett is also an Adjunct Professor and Site Coordinator for Bowie State University’s Second Chance Pell Grant Prison Education Program, where he helps bring higher education to incarcerated individuals. This role allows him to give others the same educational opportunities that helped transform his own life.
Previously, Garrett led the Bridge Center at Adam’s House in Prince George’s County, providing a range of services to returning citizens, veterans, and youth. His contributions to reentry include designing key programs such as the Katie J. Wright Re-entry Dorm at Phillips State Prison and the Walker Faith and Character Based Program, both of which focus on character development and life skills.
A TEDx speaker and advocate for second chances, Garrett’s future vision includes creating a national organization dedicated to supporting returning citizens and their families. His remarkable story of redemption, leadership, and commitment to social change continues to inspire others.
